Full Focus: SROs; Rental Assistance; Broadway Theater Connections
November 22, 2007
Many low-income San Diego residents rely on Single-Room Occupancy Hotels, or SROs, for affordable housing. But San Diego lost one-third of its SRO stock during the downtown redevelopment of the '70s and '80s. Today there are about 4500 SRO units left in the city, and more disappear every year. What will happen to the displaced SRO residents? Find out what's being done about low-income housing in downtown San Diego Tuesday night on Full Focus. Also, we'll explore another option for low-income families: Section 8 federal rental assistance vouchers. And, we'll talk with KPBS Theater Critic Pat Launer about Broadway hit plays with roots in San Diego. Guests: Mike Dececchi, County Housing Program Manager; Robert Pinnegar, SD County Apartment Association; Pat Launer, KPBS Theater Critic Â
