Housing Affordability Partnership

The Housing Affordability Partnership brings together housing stakeholders from diverse sectors of BC's Capital Region to increase awareness and facilitate innovative solutions locally.  HAP promotes housing solutions by reviewing project proposals and offering formal letters of support for projects that will directly increase the affordability of rental or owned housing within the Capital Region.

Aboriginal Housing Management Associations

The association is working to have at least one project of 200-400 units committed to within the next 12 months for non-reserve housing. Presently they are working to compile housing gaps in communities and availability of suitable land for projects. As part of the new provincial housing strategy they will be given responsibility for self-management of 2,500 units of formerly federally managed housing in early 2007.

Habitat for Humanity

Internationally Habitat for Humanity is in over 100 countries…has build over 200,000 homes and dedicates a new home ever 24 minutes.

Locally we have completed 7 homes…will complete 4 more this year, and have committed to complete at least four homes a year for the next 4 years.

There are over 9800 local families who by income qualify for our programs in the Greater Victoria area. We believe in offering a hand up not a hand out.. our families pay for their homes, contribute 500 or more hours volunteering in the construction of their homes

We operate the ReStore facility.. a new and used Building supply retail store, offering the opportunity for many to renovate their homes at a low cost, and we save over 180 tons of materials from going to the landfill each year. This operations funds all of our operating costs such that: Every penny donated to the construction of a home goes for that purpose.

We are actively cultivating partnerships with many other groups /NPO’s /and others interested in creating affordable housing in the Greater Victoria Area, and will announce a project shortly in partnership with a number of such groups.

Our housing is safe….decent…affordable…..  and focused on families. We believe our work helps break the cycle of poverty for our families…offering them a hope for the future

Building Homes.   Building Hope.

Their most recent project involved purchasing and renovating a 5 unit apartment building on the Gorge that had fallen in to disrepair and become a haven for illegal activity, turning it into affordable housing for “empty nesters and homeless families.
