Affordability by Design, Affordability for All
A summary of what the City can do to create affordable housing.
Affordability by Design, Affordability for All was a co-production among the Vancouver City Planning Commission, the SFU City Program and Smart Growth BC. Financial sponsors of the event were the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia, CMHC Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and VanCity.
The focus for the event was on medium- to long-term solutions to housing affordability, with an emphasis on what the City can do in the absence of senior government funding. Affordability by design in this context refers to the creation of more affordable housing through urban planning, good design, incentives, pilot projects, and working with the private sector to increase the total supply of housing while ensuring affordability as this happens.
